List the assessment methods to be used and the context and resources required for assessment. Copy and paste the relevant sections from the evidence guide below and then re-write these in plain English.
Elements Elements describe the essential outcomes. | Performance Criteria Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element. |
1. Prepare for prop production | 1.1 In consultation with relevant personnel, confirm requirements for constructing props using a range of media 1.2 With reference to prop documentation, discuss with colleagues ways in which production requirements could be met 1.3 Select prop construction techniques that meet aesthetic requirements and provide correct visual interpretation of production requirements 1.4 Take measurements for prop items and alter design scale drawings as required 1.5 Select and prepare equipment, tools and media according to design and specification requirements |
2. Make prop items | 2.1 Participate in discussions with relevant personnel throughout the construction process to ensure prop design requirements are met 2.2 Construct prop items using the selected media, construction techniques and art finishes 2.3 Follow safety procedures throughout the construction process according to organisational requirements 2.4 Participate in ongoing trials to establish the most effective techniques, determine the effect lighting will have, and solve problems that arise during the construction phase 2.5 Correctly label and code all partially finished prop items for identification during the production phase 2.6 Store partially finished prop items during the production phase to avoid loss or damage |
3. Finish mixed media props | 3.1 Complete fireproofing according to relevant state/territory health and safety legislative requirements 3.2 Liaise with relevant personnel to check prop items for accuracy and compliance with design and production specifications 3.3 Adjust items to take account of feedback and discussions and update documentation as required 3.4 Label and code all prop elements for identification during productions 3.5 Store props according to organisational procedures 3.6 Clean, maintain and store tools, equipment and materials according to workplace and safety requirements 3.7 Contribute to evaluation of prop construction processes and note ways to improve own work performance |
Evidence of the ability to:
create mixed-media props to meet production requirements for at least one production or event
follow safety procedures
meet work deadlines
work collaboratively.
Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided for each of the above points at least once.
To complete the unit requirements the individual must describe:
issues and challenges that typically arise when making props using mixed media and ways to address them
properties, applications and durability of different types of materials that can be used for prop construction and how they can be combined
safety and environmental issues associated with handling hazardous materials
behaviour of various materials, finishes, painting techniques and colours under lighting
properties and characteristics of a variety of materials before and after art finishing.
Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in creative arts industry environments. The assessment environment must include access to:
mixed media for prop construction
prop specifications
production schedules.
Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
